Dr. Aakash Gupta is an Associate Professor at Amity Law School, Amity University Madhya Pradesh, Gwalior, with extensive experience in legal academia and institutional development. He has been serving in this role since November 2023, following over five years as Assistant Professor at Prestige Institute of Management & Research (PIMR), Gwalior (2018–2023), and prior appointments as Assistant Professor at Madhav Law College, Gwalior (2014–2018) and Guest Lecturer at the Institute of Law, Jiwaji University, Gwalior (2011–2014).
His academic specialization lies in Law with a focus on criminal law and socio-legal issues, supported by a Ph.D. in Law from Jiwaji University, Gwalior (2023) on “Nature and dimensions of the sufferings of the old age person: A Socio-legal study with special reference to Gwalior division,” under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Sanjay Kulshreshtha, and an LL.M. in Criminal Law from MLB Govt. College of Excellence, Gwalior (2010). He also holds an LL.B. (2007) and B.A. (2004), all affiliated with Jiwaji University, and has qualified UGC NET in Law (June 2012).
Dr. Gupta has undertaken numerous institutional leadership and development responsibilities, including roles as Internal Assessment Coordinator (Law), Course Coordinator (BBA LL.B. Hons.), Co-Coordinator of Business Incubation Centre & Entrepreneurship Development Cell, Coordinator of Equal Opportunity Cell, Timetable Coordinator (Law), Assistant Centre Superintendent–Exam, and a four-month tenure as Head of the Department (Law) at PIMR Gwalior. He has contributed as a member to Environment Cell, NBA & NAAC Committees, Autonomy Team, Admission Committee (Law), Institute’s Promotional Committee, International Collaboration and Promotion Committee, and Internal Complaint Committee, as well as acting as a student mentor and coordinator of SPIC MACAY activities.
In academic governance and external engagement, he coordinated the MoU between Nepal Open University (a Central Government-owned Open University, Nepal) and the Department of Law, PIMR Gwalior, and serves as an external examiner for several universities and institutes in Indore and Gwalior. He supervises multiple Ph.D. scholars in areas including criminal justice system responses to sexual offences, international commercial arbitration, legal issues related to genetically modified crops, and company law, and has guided numerous undergraduate dissertations covering topics such as sentencing policy in rape cases, medical termination of pregnancy, foreign arbitral awards, infidelity and criminal law, intellectual property safeguards, POCSO Act, TRIPS and IP enforcement, consumer protection in e-commerce, trade secrets, and judicial independence.
Dr. Gupta has actively contributed to academic events and capacity-building activities, including conducting sessions on research methodology and legal research at various law colleges, coordinating an online quiz competition on the inception of the three new criminal laws, and coordinating a national conference on the replacement of colonial criminal laws by Bharatiya laws. He regularly participates in faculty development programmes, webinars, and national case writing workshops and has developed teaching cases such as “Judgement that Silenced Section 66-A” and “Aspire to inspire: Dreams seldom materialize on their own.”
His research contributions include publications on violence against old age persons, social security for the elderly, cyber victimization of women and cyber laws, Aadhaar and the right to privacy, the Uniform Civil Code, legal protections for senior citizens, and defamation in the cyber world. He has also secured institutional grants from the National Commission for Women, New Delhi, for seminars and webinars and applied for further funding for legal awareness programmes. His innovative teaching methods include video lectures on contract law hosted on the MP Higher Education Portal and the use of poetry to simplify procedural laws such as the Code of Criminal Procedure, Code of Civil Procedure, and Law of Evidence.
